Natural Horsemanship, Classical Dressage, Horsemanship. The process of knowing what you want and allowing it to unfold. The essence of Nature is Positive, the down stream flow of life, resistance free . The nature of a horse is to get along following the path of least resistance . The journey of being an effective leader with a horse will restore our nature. The balance of having the horse follow you because you are directing them to safely at all times without force. The Horse is waiting for us to understand things can be that easy!
These would just be flowery words without living their meaning. The start for me as an instructor is providng enough knowledge so you will feel safe and enjoy the work with your horse. Please keep this in mind. FEEL GOOD ABOUT HOW YOU ARE WORKING WITH YOUR HORSE.
Early session with Dancer, off the track Thoroughbred,
The horse is always looking for the release. I do my best to have that release come from following my direction, following a feel to security, in this instance it is down. When the horse is reduced down to breaking to freedom and that becoming the release , that is the beginining of what we perceive as resistance from the horse. It can get a little confusing in the beginining the horse is searching for the open door, we feel they are trying to pull and pull back, and so it starts. Please believe me when I say I didn't learn this the easy way , I have skied across many pasture's. Sometimes it's like just letting enough fizz out of the soda bottle not to get a bath, get wet enough times and you will develop the proper feel to stay dry. It is often helpful to present a new way to the horse instead of rehearsing a routine. Dancer had learned to jump straight up in the air, all fours off the ground when being led . Since having a thoroughbred horse kite wasn't useful I needed a different way in. It is a wonderful feeling when the horse understands what you want and softly responds.
Burt and me , getting a re-start
Burt is a Quarter horse, my hope for him is to get him to start to enjoy his work. When I say restart I am including myself in the picture. Burt has had many owner's in his short life he wear's the good and bad on his hoof. I am no longer interested in what I can make him do , my goal is for him to soften and enjoy the ride.
Seyfried our Lippizzan Stallion.
Seyfried is a horse that I have comitted to get along with, he is our horse and I am not going to go into the dramatic stories to prove I have made progress with him , just let me say that there was a time when I thought I couldn't help. When I found that line where I wasn't going to fight with him but was still in charge of my space and could point out his space I knew in my heart I could help .
